Building Committee Meeting Summary
January 28, 2008
Sixteen people attended the regular monthly meeting of the St. Mark UMC Building Committee. Following an opening prayer, the minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written.
A motion was made to ratify the email vote approval of the contract between St. Mark UMC and SYS. This motion was unanimously approved by the committee. It was noted that the contract is contingent upon approval of our loan at Oconee Federal.
A motion was made to investigate the cost of improving the landscaping of the area around the Boy Scout hut, including extension of a culvert to better control water flow, resulting in a more usable, park-like area. The motion was unanimously approved.
A motion was made to accept an offer from Florence Hanzel to purchase the four colored glass panels currently at the back of the Sanctuary. The motion was unanimously approved.
Construction activity update:
- Concrete has been poured in back
- The steel contractor is scheduled to begin work the week of Feb. 4th
- Trusses have been ordered.
- Annex framing is estimated to begin Feb. 15th.
- Narthex framing is estimated to begin in mid-February.
- The fire wall between the Annex and the SMC has been built.
A problem with mud in front of the Boy Scout hut has been noted. The contractor will be notified and asked to lay boards to eliminate the mud being tracked into the church.
The Building Committee will be meeting with the architect to discuss the scope of work in the Sanctuary on Wed. morning. Actual work in that area will not begin until after Easter.
The St. Mark Center (SMC) sub-committee will be meeting with the architect, then the Celebration Rally to define the scope of work for that area.
The Audio/Visual sub-committee has met to facilitate ideas and obtain costs and should have the scope of that project defined soon.
